Pretending

So much of adulthood is about responsibility and making good impressions. Setting an example.

It’s been dreary and rainy day upon day, week upon week. When the sun shines it’s when I’ve needed to keep butt in seat, face to a screen.

By this morning I am getting really grumpy about it. If you know me, you’ll know that I am a glass half full person. Optimistic. Sunny enough to piss people off sometimes.

To maintain that level of cheer today, I’ve decided to pretend that I’m in the west of Ireland. It’s a place that I love deeply and have visited a number of times. Each time I’m there I’m tickled pink even when it is lashing down rain. Rain? No bother, just pour more tea, or a foamy black pint. Put on a rain coat and get out on the hilltops anyway.

So if you too are bogged down by the gray sky today, try pretending you’re in the Connemara hills, or the Gap of Dunloe in Kerry. Maybe an island off the coast of Cork? At the top of a lighthouse? (If you choose this one, can I come along? I have big lighthouse dreams.) I’ve been in Ireland in craptastic weather and still loved it all the same.

Happy daydreaming. I’d love to hear where you are off to in your mind’s eye today. Please share.

Ha! Love this! I do similar when it’s stinking hot here in summer; dream of being freezing cold and drizzly. Not sure if I could hack it, a long freezing winter I mean, but it’s still nice to dream…

It gets hottish here in summer, and I sometimes feel wistful for winter. But we literally woke up to two inches of snow yesterday. Doubtful I’ll miss winter much when summer finally comes this year!

Do you know, I feel the same way when I visit the UK/Ireland. Who cares about the weather, it’s such a beautiful place. But the thing is, this is a beautiful place too, so why do I curl up in bed when the weather is foul? I vow to remember that feeling of adventure, even when I’m here at home.

Or not, beause sometimes a good nap when it’s raining is the best!
