A Sky Like Spring

© Sue Schlabach

This morning there was a shift in the light in the sky. The weekend was bitterly cold with that pink or pale icy blue tinge in the ether.

Today there was a warm hint of yellow in the sky blue and the hills glowed differently. The 28 degree F air felt balmy on my cheeks.

As we walked the dog the snow mounds by the road seemed less daunting. More meltable.

This is how we pass the winter here near the 44th parallel, where it lingers for nearly six months. We look for signs and we revel in them.

We are also desperately seeking spring. You’ve described the change in the light perfectly.
Here’s hoping for a nice snowless April!

There is always snow in April, isn’t there? Luckily April sun is bold and the melt is fast.

I love those blue, blue skies! Winter here in England has been mostly rain, rain and more rain – this last week or two coupled with strong winds and storms, with one day of heavy snow that brought all the traffic to a halt. The earth locally can’t absorb any more water and places are flooding as all that rain moves downstream in the rivers.
There are signs of spring though – the wild garlic is poking up shoots, there are snowdrops in flower and daffodils about to burst into bloom. Roll on spring! I am tired of sliding around in the mud on the park!

All your rain leading to snowdrops and daffodils. It sounds but a dream. Mud will be on its way soon enough here. My snowdrops appeared on April 6 last year. Wishing you some blue skies soon.
